The Viking ship DORESTAD-1 docks at the Batavialand Museum

On June 27 and 28, Museum Batavialand will welcome the Viking ship DORESTAD-1. This special visit brings together history and craftsmanship right on the waterfront. Come aboard and discover stories about trade, shipbuilding, and life on the water in the Middle Ages.

The crew takes visitors on a journey into the world of historical shipbuilding. How was a Viking ship built? What techniques were used? And why did Dorestad play such an important role as a trading center? Find out during encounters on board and ashore.

Demonstrations of traditional crafts on shore

On June 27 and 28, the DORESTAD-1 will be moored at the Museum Batavialand dock. During the day, the ship will remain in the harbor, and the crew will be happy to talk about the ship’s construction, materials, and sailing characteristics.

On shore, reenactors bring old shipbuilding crafts to life. See how techniques from days gone by were used and discover how much knowledge, strength, and skill were required to make a ship seaworthy.

Join us for a sunset cruise

Want to take to the water? On both June 27 and 28, you can join us for a special sunset cruise to the Marker Wadden from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. As night falls, experience what it’s like to sail on a ship inspired by the Vikings of yesteryear.

The schedule is subject to weather conditions. We sail whenever possible; if there is no wind, the DORESTAD-1 will use its engine.
