Flevoland Memory

The memory of Flevoland, told by residents

Flevolands Memory is the storytelling website of Museum Batavialand, packed with personal stories about the youngest province of the Netherlands. As part of the museum, this website brings the history of Flevoland to life with unique stories about the Zuiderzee, the reclamation and life on the new land. Discover how the first stores and Sinterklaas parades came about in Almere and Lelystad, and delve into the days when Urk was still an island.

An initiative of Museum Batavialand

Flevoland’s Memory is a project of Museum Batavialand in cooperation with Landschapsbeheer Flevoland. The museum collects stories of pioneers and residents who experienced the genesis of Flevoland up close. From eyewitness accounts of the landscape and nature to personal memories of everyday life, these stories form a tangible reminder of Flevoland’s history.

Share your own story

The website not only offers a wealth of stories, but also invites visitors to contribute to Flevoland’s memory. Respond under existing stories or send your own memories to the editors. Together we keep these stories alive and accessible for future generations.
