During the Christmas vacations, experience a relaxing and educational day out at Museum Batavialand. You and your family will discover how Flevoland emerged from the sea, see the Batavia and walk around the historic shipyard. In between you’ll enjoy surprising activities for children and parents. And do you want to make your day complete? Then walk straight on to Batavia Stad for a combination of culture and shopping.

Last chance: 40 years of Batavia

During the Christmas vacations you can view the special anniversary exhibitions surrounding 40 years of Batavia for the last time. The exhibition on the jetty and the accompanying 40 years of Batavia film can only be admired during the Christmas vacations.

Something special every day

Every day there is something different to experience. On December 27 and January 3, for example, the cannons are fired. Children can learn to tie knots and “head crochet,” and on Dec. 20 there will be live music aboard the Batavia. On December 28, 17th-century chefs will cook historic dishes for visitors with flavors from the time of the VOC. In this way, you will dive into history while playing.

Winter treat

On December 29 and 30, Jan Pannenkoeken bakes free poffertjes all day for all visitors. A sweet ending that rounds off your museum day warmly.

Our regular crowd-pleasers

In addition to all the winter activities, the museum’s permanent sections are also open. You’ll explore the Water Theater, admire the Flevo wall, take a look around the shipyard and discover the stories behind the Batavia, the world’s largest 17th-century reconstruction ship. Together this makes your visit a relaxing, educational and complete day out.

Practical information

Museum Batavialand is open during the Christmas vacations from December 20 to January 4, with the exception of December 25, 26 and 31 and January 1. Activities vary each day and are indicated at the museum entrance.
