Glavimans Symposion

The meeting for maritime archaeology and history

The Glavimans Symposion is an annual meeting place for anyone with a passion for historical maritime archaeology. This event brings together researchers, students, volunteers and professionals to share knowledge and learn from the latest insights and discoveries.

On Friday, December 11, 2026, the “Day of Historical Maritime Archaeology in the Netherlands” (18th Glavimans Symposium) will be held at Museum Batavialand in Lelystad. The theme is “The Ins and Outs of Ship Rigging: Historical Maritime Archaeology,” with further details to follow.

In collaboration with the Glavimans Foundation, Museum Batavialand organized the 14th, 15th, and 16th Glavimans Symposion in 2022, 2023, and 2024, respectively—the premier event for historical maritime archaeology in the Netherlands. The Glavimans Symposium will once again take place at Museum Batavialand in 2026.
