It has been exactly 40 years since the keel of the Batavia was laid. We’re celebrating in a big way! The wharf and the ship are festively decorated and in the museum store you will find special limited edition anniversary products. The Museum is all about discovering, reliving and celebrating together – with activities for young and old.
To mark the anniversary, there are two temporary exhibitions. On the jetty in front of the Batavia you will discover step by step how the ship was built, supported by audio clips of people who were there. At the wharf, a short anniversary film shows the history of the Batavia: how the ship was built, who all were on board and what it has brought about in 40 years.
Especially for the 40th anniversary of the Batavia, Willem Vos, the master builder of the Batavia, has put together a special exhibition. He shares his memories of the early years of the Batavia and provides a unique glimpse into the mind of a man with a dream that became reality.
