With both indoor and outdoor locations, you’ll discover a world full of interactive activities, historical cooking demonstrations and fascinating stories. From meals aboard VOC ships to food in prehistoric times – with us you will experience history in a tasty and educational way.

Highlights of Spring Break

Living History Day – crew on board!

Experience 17th-century ship life on the Batavia! Meet the crew of the Batavia. They will tell you about the hard life at sea and how sailors stored and prepared their food.

Historic cooking on an open fire

See how medieval and prehistoric dishes are prepared on a fire pit. Taste authentic flavors and learn ancient cooking techniques from an expert in prehistoric clothing.

Trials on board

Experience how sailors ate! Sample dishes such as gorte porridge and sourdough bread and discover how food was preserved on long voyages.

Interactive demonstrations

Discover more about the eating habits on a VOC ship, learn how grain was milled and experience for yourself how food was prepared without modern means.

Fishing scavenger hunt and crafts

For young explorers! Explore hidden stories about fish and food or participate in craft activities such as nail forging, knot tying and cup chopping.

Plan your visit

The special activities are from Feb. 15 to March 2, during regular opening hours. Each day there are different activities. On the day itself, you can see at the entrance what activities are on that day.
