Museum Batavialand in Lelystad tells the story of the Netherlands and water, from prehistory to the reclamation of Flevoland. We are the national museum for ship archaeology and manage the National Ship Archaeological Depot, the Provincial Archaeological Depot Flevoland and the museum depot with the heritage collections of the province. With the impressive reconstruction of the Batavia and our shipyard, visitors experience 17th-century craftsmanship up close.
Reason
Museum Batavialand is on the eve of a major renewal plan aimed at integrating the museum presentation, the management of the collection and the shipyard into one Museum Batavialand with the allure it deserves. This renewal is generously supported by the Province of Flevoland, the Ministry of OCW and the Municipality of Lelystad. The recruitment campaign will raise the remaining required funds from existing and new partners in the business community, major donors, private and public funds.
Our Challenge
The greatest challenge for Museum Batavialand lies in realizing these ambitious plans. In addition, working on the further professionalization of our organization, and improving our public offerings, marketing and communication. We want to introduce even more people to the maritime and archaeological world and offer an unforgettable experience by growing to at least 100,000 visitors a year.
The museum is structurally supported by the Ministry of OCW, Province of Flevoland and the Municipality of Lelystad and has a network of friends, companies and private funds, which will have to be reactivated and expanded for the renewal of Museum Batavialand.
