We know Fred as a passionate, inspired and dedicated colleague.
For several years, Fred was involved in the construction of the reconstruction of the Seven Provinces.
When the finishing of the reconstruction had to stop in 2013, it was a great opportunity for Fred to join the construction of the large scale model (1 in 10) of the Seven Provinces. Soon Fred formed the rigging team together with Bertus: a remarkable duo that did not shy away from loud and lengthy discussions among themselves! Unfortunately, the death of Bertus several years ago brought a premature end to the collaboration. On his own, Fred completed the work, down to the last hoists and strings.
With his background as a dentist, Fred was a very precise worker, not easily satisfied with the result. With endless patience, he made the smallest grommets, lined and tied as they should be. Thanks to his training at maritime school, he was well versed in the craft of rigging. His great knowledge in this field ensured that, in cooperation with Bertus, a beautiful and responsible standing rigging was put on the Seven Provinces. Fred was a true artisan and craftsman.
Last year Fred was able to work on the rigging of the model of the kogge. It is very unfortunate that it was not given to him to complete that job as well.
