Open House at Museum Batavialand

In September, Museum Batavialand will be fully focused on Open Monument Day 2026. This year, Flevoland is the host province for the 40th edition, and Museum Batavialand will serve as the venue for the national opening ceremony.

On Friday, September 11, we’ll kick off the weekend in festive style with the official national opening. On Sunday, September 13, we’ll open our doors to visitors free of charge, with an extensive program featuring crafts, archaeology, restoration, and living history.

Friday, September 11: National Opening of Open Monument Day

Friday evening, September 11, is the big day: Museum Batavialand will serve as the venue for the national opening of Open Monument Day 2026.

Starting at 7:45 p.m., a festive opening program will take place at our shipyard, followed by the official opening ceremony.

Would you like to visit the exhibition spaces before the opening? You’re welcome to do so. Museum Batavialand will be open until 7:00 p.m. on this day.

Please note: Due to preparations for the evening program, the shipyard grounds will close at 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, September 13: Free Admission to Museum Batavialand

On Sunday, September 13, you can visit Museum Batavialand for free during Open Monument Day.

Discover how maritime heritage is researched, restored, created, and kept alive. Take a look behind the scenes, meet our curators, and discover unique objects and stories from our collections.

Here’s what you can do

  • Meet the Craftsmen: Visit the sailmaker’s workshop, weaving mill, blacksmith shop, model-making workshop, woodcarving workshop, and harness-making shop, among others.
  • Baardmankruik Mini-Tour: at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.
  • Puzzle with Shards: at 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
  • Sunken Treasures – Maritime Depot: at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
  • Flevoparels – Provincial Depot: at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • Open Restoration Workshop: from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Living History: Meet the gun crew at the shipyard.

Be on time

For the guided tours of the storage areas and the “Puzzling with Shards” activity, a maximum of 10 spots are available per time slot.
