Museum Batavialand is the museum about the history of Flevoland, about the new land after the making of the polders, the centuries of busy shipping traffic over the Zuiderzee, the unique shipwrecks and finds. The museum also has a shipyard where historic ships are recreated to keep the craft of shipping alive.
In order to keep the day at Museum Batavialand running smoothly and make sure every visitor has an enjoyable day, we are looking for an immediate candidate for our team of Public Employees:
Public Activities Team Leader (32 hours per week).
The public activities team leader is part of and reports to the manager of the Public & Presentation Department. The public activities department consists of employees and volunteers who are in direct contact with the visitors of Museum Batavialand. Museum Batavialand experiences seasonal peaks and troughs in visitor numbers, which affects the staffing of the team throughout the year. The public activities team leader works together with paid staff and volunteers and is rotating as the first point of contact on the floor, also during holidays and weekends. In addition to managing the team, the public activities team leader is responsible for the store’s purchasing, presentation and sales, FAFS organization, scheduling and has experience with POS systems. The colleague we are looking for has a sense of humor, is commercial and solution-oriented, a real people person and has hospitality in high regard. He/she has an eye for the tasks that need to be done and tackles them independently, keeps a cool head in stressful situations and makes improvement proposals regarding the functioning of the department. In short, a real spider in the web function!
What will you do?
- Lead the team of public employees, educate and train new employees, monitor and where necessary adjust the quality of service of the public employees, handle complaints and improve processes;
- In the role of floor manager, opening and closing the museum, receiving groups (occasionally also outside) opening hours, co-hosting the morning meeting, preparing reception rooms, arranging AV resources, rotating presence at the various locations and central point of contact on the day;
- Store: store presentation, purchasing stock and new items (in consultation with marketing), setting up the products in the cash register, handling the administration and printing out sales reports;
- In the role of head of FAFS providing materials and training/rehearsals for staff, process monitor the RI&E and follow up on resulting action items;
- Ultimately responsible for proper staffing/schedule of the team of public employees and volunteers, tailored to the seasonal nature of the museum;
- Responding to reservations and bookings during times of busyness and/or absence of the reservations officer.
What do we expect?
- You know better than anyone to make the guests of Museum Batavialand feel welcome and explain with enthusiasm what can be seen, done and experienced in Museum Batavialand;
- You are friendly, collegial, commercial and presentable;
- You are fit and vital;
- You preferably have an HBO education in retail, hotel or facility management and/or have relevant (managerial) work experience;
- You have experience with POS systems (ticket counter is a plus);
- You can handle Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel) and preferably the booking and reservation system SEM Online or are willing to learn;
- Speaking Dutch and English comes easily to you, German is a plus;
- You hold and/or are willing to obtain a FAFS certificate:
- You are available on weekends, during school vacations, public holidays and occasionally outside business hours.
What do we offer?
- Working at the most beautiful place in Lelystad, with lots of daily variety in a friendly team;
- Working conditions are in accordance with the Museum collective bargaining agreement;
- Depending on knowledge and experience, the position is classified in scale 8 or 9. The salary is minimum € 2,913 and maximum € 4348 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek;
- A year-end bonus of 3.40%, a vacation allowance of 8% and a travel allowance, if you do not live in Lelystad;
- The appointment will initially be for a period of one year.
