RUUM continues to grow. Following a successful first year, Museum Batavialand, Museum Schokland, and Jij bent M. are celebrating RUUM’s second year with a new exhibition: RUUM on Schokland.

Over the past few months, more than 100 young people from Flevoland have been exploring heritage, stories, and their own world. Together with artists Patriek Leichtenberg and Stieneke Oeverbeek, both of whom have roots in Flevoland, they worked on a special exhibition at the Schokland World Heritage Site.

A year of creating, exploring, and connecting

RUUM is more than just an exhibition. It is a place where young people explore, create, and make their voices heard. Drawing on museum collections, personal stories, and current themes, young people explored questions such as: Who is the other person? What do you leave behind? And how do you want to be remembered?

Over the past six months, students from Porteum, Arte, and X-TUUR have been working with the RUUMclub on artworks, sounds, and stories that are now coming together on Schokland.

Building the future of heritage together

RUUM is a multi-year project by Museum Batavialand, Museum Schokland, and Jij bent M., made possible by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science (OCW). Through this initiative, young people in Flevoland are given the opportunity to discover, create, and give meaning to heritage for the future.

Join us in celebrating RUUM’s second anniversary

With RUUM on Schokland, we are not only celebrating a new exhibition, but also a second year in which young people are giving heritage new meaning. In a place where stories have been washing ashore for centuries, they are bringing new perspectives to land.
