From June 20 through September 23, Museum Schokland will host the exhibition RUUM on Schokland. Young people from Flevoland showcase what they want to leave behind for the future. Through personal treasures, stories, and sounds, they reveal who they are and how they want to be remembered. The exhibition also poses a question to you: how do you want to be remembered?
Heritage Gets a Young Voice
RUUM on Schokland is the result of RUUM, a collaboration between Museum Schokland, Jij bent M., and Museum Batavialand. In this project, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 discover how heritage can tell a story about their own lives. Together with artists Stieneke Oeverbeek and Patriek Leichtenberg, 100 students from Porteum, Arte, and X-TUUR created their own exhibition. The theme is JouwRUUM. Young people explored how they view others and the place where they live. Themes such as migration, discrimination, and identity took shape in images, sound, and installations.
The exhibition is free to visit in the reinforced concrete barn at the Schokland World Heritage Site. You can easily combine your visit with a stop at the Schokland Museum.
Location: Schokkerringweg 25, Schokland
Parking: Park in lot P2 and cross the street toward the barn.
