Small ships, big stories

In Museum Batavialand’s Model Building, iconic ships come to life, but in miniature. Here, craftsmen with an eye for detail work on scale models that tell an important piece of shipping history. Each model is a work of art in itself, made with the same passion and precision as the original ships.

The ‘Seven Provinces’ in miniature

One of the showpieces is the scale model of the “Seven Provinces,” the warship with which Michiel de Ruyter won many sea battles. Everything, from the impressive deck to the smallest gun barrel, is handmade. This model is the result of years of patient craftsmanship, and it shows perfectly how grand these ships were, even in miniature form.
