Led by our teacher, an enthusiastic team of volunteers brings this age-old craft to life. Not only are ship parts and tools forged here, but also unique products for the museum store are made.
Our blacksmiths master techniques such as fire welding, which connects wrought iron with fire and power. Experimental archaeology also plays a role: historical finds, such as a thunderbuss from the wreck of the Batavia, are recreated here with precision. This is not only fascinating to see, but keeps ancient knowledge alive.
