Craftsmanship, Stories, and Music Come to Life
From Friday, April 18 to Monday, May 5, enjoy a special May vacation at Museum Batavialand. Under the theme ‘Science & Craft’, you’ll dive into hidden stories, explore centuries-old techniques, and witness true craftsmanship up close. This holiday, everything revolves around the impressive Watership currently under construction at our shipyard.
Music of the Sea
On selected days, you’ll hear music just as it sounded centuries ago aboard ships. A trumpeter in period clothing brings the sounds of the past to life – complete with trumpet and fanfare. For a moment, you’ll feel like a true part of the crew.
Discover Craftsmanship at the Shipyard
At our shipyard, you’ll see skilled artisans working together to build the Watership. Woodworkers, blacksmiths, and other craftsmen demonstrate their techniques – sometimes using steam, sometimes fire. Our guides will share the fascinating stories behind it all: how the ship takes shape, why specific wood forms are chosen, and how science and craft go hand in hand.
Step Aboard the Batavia
No visit to Museum Batavialand is complete without stepping aboard our iconic Batavia – a stunning reconstruction of a 17th-century ship. Wander the deck, feel the solid timber beneath your feet, and discover what life on board was really like.
Special Days on May 2 and 3
On Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3, we’re bringing even more action to the shipyard. Expect demonstrations, special activities, and even more craftsmanship in motion. Check our website for the full program.
