As a guide, you’ll be part of the visitor reception team at Museum Batavialand. The day shift handles all visitor services, from selling tickets and merchandise to providing information to visitors. This takes place at various locations, such as inside the museum, at the shipyard, on the pier, and aboard the Batavia. All-around visitor volunteers and guides rotate between different stations throughout the day, so your day is always varied and you get to work with different people.
A volunteer shares: That group only had half an hour, but they were so interested that they ended up walking around here for an hour and a half.
Role and Department
We’d love to strengthen our team with volunteers who enjoy engaging visitors in stories in an interactive way. You know better than anyone how to adapt your story to the audience and the circumstances. Sometimes you’ll engage visitors with a short 10-minute story; other times, there’s time for a comprehensive tour—and everything in between. Knowledge of the history of Flevoland, shipbuilding, and/or the seventeenth century is a plus, but not required. We’ll provide the basic information and help you make the stories your own.
