Museum Batavialand is the museum about the history of Flevoland, about the new land after the making of the polders, the centuries of busy shipping traffic over the Zuiderzee, the unique shipwrecks and finds. The museum also has a shipyard where historic ships are recreated to keep the craft of shipping alive.
Museum Batavialand tells the story of the Netherlands and the Dutch living on the border of land and water. The museum does this with provincial heritage collections and a state maritime archaeological collection. To lead the department and be a member of the Management Team we are looking for a
Head of Knowledge & Collection (36 hours)
The department
The Knowledge and Collection Department consists of fifteen employees who work enthusiastically to preserve Flevoland’s provincial heritage collections and national maritime archaeological collection as well as possible and make them accessible for presentation and research. They do this through, among other things, depot management, conservation and restoration of objects, research into the collection and telling the story of the maritime history of the Netherlands with, in particular, the province of Flevoland as the largest shipwreck graveyard on dry land in the world.
What you will do
As Head of Knowledge and Collection you will develop policy and lead a team of specialists. You will ensure efficient implementation of collection and research policies and work on innovative projects. Important tasks:
- Lead the department, including coaching and motivating employees.
- Establish and implement strategic collection and research policies.
- Manage budget and realize annual plans.
- Contribute to exhibitions, publications and knowledge sharing.
- Represent Batavialand within networks and with stakeholders.
- Writing project applications and realizing fundraising.
