Vacancy: Programmer

At Museum Batavialand, dive into hidden stories with three unique experiences: step aboard VOC ship the Batavia, experience historic crafts at the shipyard and discover the impressive story of Flevoland. But a museum is more than its collection. It’s the stories, programs and encounters that make the difference. And that’s where we need you.

Within the Audience & Presentation department, we are looking for a Program Manager who not only has ideas, but also rolls up his sleeves and makes those ideas a reality. Someone who sees opportunities, connects people and creates socially relevant public activities that stick.

What will you do?

As Program Maker, you are the driving force behind our public program. You will identify trends in the museum sector and translate current social themes into program concepts that are consistent with our collection and mission.

  • You will develop and implement public activities with attention to the needs of diverse audiences: from youth to adults and from professionals to stakeholders.
  • You will program both inside and outside the museum walls, actively engaging with target audiences and combining interactive events with digital storytelling based on quirky, innovative formats.
  • You will write project plans, create schedules, manage budgets and monitor deadlines.
  • You will build a broad network and develop lasting partnerships with speakers, artists, cultural institutions, community partners and audiences, ensuring surprising cross-pollinations.
  • You will co-write grant applications, organize stakeholder events for relationship management, and liaise with stakeholders and sponsors.

Who are we looking for?

A maker and a doer who takes responsibility and realizes programs from concept to execution. Social relevance comes naturally to you and you know what a museum program needs to be both strong in content and audience-oriented. You recognize yourself in the following:

  • You are organizationally strong: you work project-based and bring activities from plan to execution on your own.
  • You can prioritize, are flexible and function just right in a dynamic environment where a lot is happening at once.
  • You are a connector and have a relevant network in the cultural and social sector and proactively seek collaboration with (local) communities and partners.
  • You have excellent communication and written skills (at least in Dutch).
  • Because public programs also take place outside regular business hours, you will be available in the evening or on weekends as needed.

Who we offer.

The opportunity to make an impact within a developing museum. Room to build, innovate and make a clear mark on programming.

  • A challenging, independent position for 32 hours per week.
  • Scale 9 of the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement and good fringe benefits.
  • Vacation allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (3.4%).
  • One-year contract (employment) with the possibility of renewal.
  • An inspiring workplace among historic shipwrecks, archaeological finds and an active shipyard.

Enthusiastic?

Let us know your vision for public programming and what you bring to help shape it. Send your cover letter and resume (preferably in PDF) by May 7, 2026 to sollicitaties@batavialand.nl, Attn: Linda Palil. Interviews will take place on May 13.

Did the above not answer all your questions? If so, please contact linda.palil@batavialand.nl

Museum Batavialand welcomes everyone regardless of background, age or beliefs. We are curious about your talent. Therefore, we strongly encourage people of diverse backgrounds to apply.
